An Interview With New York’s Own, Keith Mann

Keith Mann is an executive professional with over 15 years in the industry. Over the years, he has accumulated a lot of knowledge to become an expert in staffing, hiring strategy, and hedge fund compensation. Mann previously worked at Dynamics Executive Search. He was the Managing Director of the company. His primary responsibility was recruiting for global financial services firms. Mann showed his entrepreneurial skill by launching Alternative Investment Practice in 2002. The firm worked with his parent company, Dynamics Executive Search. Keith Mann was motivated to start the business because he saw that the hedge fund industry had gained rapid growth in a market that was underserved by the search community.

Alternative Investment Management has managed to expand into the private equity industry. In 2009, Mann launched Dynamics Search Partners. The company is one of the largest hedge fund service providers that is committed and dedicated to gathering quality talents for hedge fund industries and alternative investments. Mann is the Chief Executive Officer of the company. He assists the firm’s clients in building new platforms, marketing, internalizing strategies, and hiring investments. The company has grown to become one of the largest databases of investment executives in America, Europe, and Asia.

How did you come up with the idea to start Dynamic Search Partners?
I got the idea to form Dynamic Search Partners when I was still young. My family lived in New York. The city has many companies and executives. I felt that there was a need to fill out management positions in the future because of the ever-growing economy. While working at Dynamics Associate, I managed to gain a lot of experience in alternative investments. My partners and I thought of forming a new firm that would have a similar name to our company. That is how we ended up with Dynamics Search Partners.

Can you explain your day’s schedule?
My day is usually very busy. I am constantly at meetings with different executives and clients. While at the office, I get a lot of call and emails that need my response. To make the most out of my day, I remain focused on my objectives and keep up with my workflow. I also work out before coming to work to make my body active during the day.

What is the source of your ideas?
Personally, I believe that ideas come from possible solutions that we can find for the challenges facing our market. It is a matter of trying to fill the gaps that exist in our corporate world. Currently, there is the need to hire more employees to expand our operations. I invest in ideas that I feel will have a positive impact on our current market system.

Where do you see your company in the coming years?
I see my business expanding and diversifying its portfolio to serve the needs of the market. In our line of work, we strive to produce the best candidate for each position. Over the past years, our clients have been seeking the best candidates from us.

What do you do that makes you proactive and prosperous?
I have to say that my morning workouts are my most important routine. I find my work quite challenging because I do the same tasks every day. However, exercising my body helps me stay focused and work efficiently.

In your career, what type of job didn’t you like?
I was previously employed at a well-known bank as a trading assistant. I honestly hated the job.

What were you able to learn from that experience?
I learned that I wanted to be my boss.

It is clear that the path you chose has worked out perfectly for you. If you were to go back in time, what would you do differently?
I believe that everything happens for a reason. Life is not a matter of coincidences. Therefore, I would not change anything. I feel blessed to have met wonderful people that have contributed to my success.

What advice would you give to aspiring entrepreneurs?
My advice goes to every person that dreams of being successful. It is important that you always seek help from experienced professionals. It is unwise to assume that the first decision is correct. People should develop the culture of collecting data and information about a particular subject before coming to a conclusion.

What external factor do you think has considerably helped you firm to grow?
The inclusion of technology in our operations has worked wonders for our company. We have created an online portal for our clients and candidates. My team has been able to save a lot of time by using the portal. Without a doubt, technology has significantly helped me in running the company with ease.

Talking about technology, what is your favorite online application or web-based service?
I am a huge fan of LinkedIn because of the significant effect it has had in our industry. I love Google products. I also love docs and spreadsheets because they allow many people to work on them simultaneously.

Everyone knows how successful you are. However, can you tell us any failure that you have had in your entrepreneurial journey?
When our company was starting, we made a wrong hiring decision. We hired a person with a great personality. Unfortunately, the new employee did not fit in our agenda.

What is your most recent $100 expense?
A few days ago, I took my kids to a pizza-making class that cost $100. I was happy to see them enjoying themselves.

What book or novel do you think people in our community should read?
I would suggest Daniel Kahneman’s Thinking, Fast and Slow. It is a good book for people that want to be successful in their lives.

Who is your role model?
I always look up to Michael Bloomberg. He is very successful and a good example for young people to follow.
