Prior to the 2017 NFL season, there were many different experts that expected that the New York Giants could once again return to their Super Bowl form and compete for a division and league title. While the team had a lot of Promise due to the amount of weapons that had on offense, a lot of different injuries and overall other struggles quickly turn the season upside down. While the Giants were widely expected by some to at least compete for a playoff spot, those expectations were thrown out the window very early on. The team ended up finishing with a very disappointing record or just 3 wins and 13 losses.
A lot of the struggles with the team were due to injuries that occurred early in the year. While the team was considered to have the best wide receiver core in the league, all three of the team’s top receivers suffered major injuries during the year. This made it impossible for quarterback Eli Manning to throw the ball down the field and the team ended up getting blown out of a lot of games.
Now that the 2017 season is over, the Giants are focused on improving for the future (http://www.espn.com/blog/new-york-giants/post/_/id/55909/giants-coaching-search-steve-wilks-gets-to-show-why-players-gravitates-toward-him). This offseason the team and franchise will have a lot of different important decisions to make.
One of the biggest decisions that the team will have to make is what to do about their quarterback position. During the 2017 season, quarterback Eli Manning was benched for the first time in his entire career and had one week in which he did not even start the game. While the quarterback has won two Super Bowls and is likely going to be in the Hall of Fame someday, it does not seem clear whether or not the Giants are willing to move forward with him in the future. The Giants will end up having a very high draft pick and some believe that they could end up drafting a quarterback with that pick in an attempt to build for the future.
While a new quarterback could be a big help for the future, they also need to focus on other areas. The team showed that they have an overall lack of depth and need a lot of pieces to fill in the gaps.
